HELLO. I AM JENNIFER.
Wild Foods from a cabin nestled in the woods of Alaska
Story behind Boreal Wild
I live out in the bush of Interior Alaska on the Tanana river, with my partner Andrew, in a cabin we built ourselves one fall. I moved out here in the fall of 2014 from Austin, Texas. After decades of dreaming of living in Alaska, I sold everything I owned and just jumped in.
We mostly do subsistence living, so I spend a good amount of my time hunting, fishing, and gathering and processing our harvests. Without running water, and minimal electricity (we have some solar panels that keeps the internet on, the phones charged and power the occasional luxury) my kitchen is very minimalist, and most everything is cooked on the wood burning stove, or in the wood burning oven.
I am constantly striving for a more handmade and sustainable life, so alongside wild food I’ll explore wild medicine, homemade beauty, knitting, tanning, brewing, fermentation, as well as sharing a little of my day to day quiet little life in the boreal forest that I love.
